The election 2010 fever is on and what better way to cool down than to grab a taste of gelato at Gelatissimo! I have to admit that I have been hearing much about this gelato place in Greenbelt 5 and the great gelato flavors that they have for quite sometime now. I haven’t had the chance to visit, but I was so glad to have my first encounter with these heavenly desserts this Mother’s Day.

As we spotted the store from a distance, the line of customers waiting to be served was amazingly long. The line to the cashier was past the entrance to the store. While in the line, I was watching an endearing scene – the owners of the store were actually helping out in the serving station, near the freezer. Even the little kids were helping their parents prepare the cups and giving spoons for the orders. A family business with everyone helping out really impressed me.

I ordered two medium sized cups at P160 each. Each medium sized cup allows you to order two flavors. They also have a small cup and a large cup. The large cup has room for three flavors.

I ordered a medium cup with Chocolate Chip and Hazelnut. My husband ordered a scoop of Mango and a scoop of Strawberry. They also have other chocolaty and fruity flavors. The gelato was really good. It wasn’t icy and it wasn’t too sweet either. It was perfect.

They also serve other dishes, drinks and desserts. They have delicious coffee, smooth gelato shakes, bambino cones and sundaes.

Some facts…
Gelato versus Ice Cream
Traditional mass – produced ice cream has over 18% fat up to 70% air content whereas gelato has under 10% fat and 25% air content making it a healthier and better quality alternative.
