Today, I’m featuring another amazing entrepreneur – baker, Theresa Francis Alberto from Delamor Sweet Treats. Her love for baking began at the age of 5. When she came home from school one day and saw her mom baking macaroons in a “magic oven”, she just fell in love with the sweet smell of macaroons. After that time, she would always watch her mom every time she bakes. Theresa was in High School when she started baking. She initially took orders from family and relatives.

Currently, Theresa is a Respiratory Therapist by profession, but she says that her first love is really in baking and cooking. She’s a single 36 year old full time entrepreneur and she loves being her own boss, since she has more time for herself and her family. She says, “It’s not easy but worth it”. In her spare time, she does boxing and Zumba to keep her fit and healthy. Her goal in life is to share what she knows and to pass what she has learned to those people who have the same passion.

Ginger: How did you come up with this idea? What made you decide to start this kind of business?

Theresa: My sister, Leslie, insisted to turn my hobby in baking into a business. Before, I would just bake orders for Christmas. Then I had a terrible accident last year almost took my life. After that, my sister just came up to me and said. “Ate, why don’t you do what you really love doing?”. She knew that my passion is really in baking and then so from then on, I took this seriously and orders kept coming in. It really feels good and overwhelming when your clients are happy and satisfied.

Ginger: Aww, thank you for sharing! So with all of these, who is your main market?

Theresa: My market are children and adults of all ages.

Ginger: Do you need to have a particular skill for this type of business?

Theresa: I took baking classes at Heny Sison Culinary School, but mostly I’m a self-taught baker..also learned some things from you tube.

Ginger: What do you enjoy about your business?

Theresa: What I enjoy about my business is that when I see the faces of my clients, most especially the kids and the smile on their faces,  pagnakita ko  yun (when I see that),  walang kapantay na happiness (nothing compares to the happiness that I feel). There was this one time when a client texted me and told me na ayaw pagalaw ng daughter nya yung cake (that her daughter didn’t want anyone to touch the cake) because it looks exactly what she wanted.

Ginger: What would you advise people who want to get into this business?

Theresa: Never stop learning . Always do research know your passion and always bake with love.

Ginger: How much are your product?

Theresa: I always ask my clients how much is their budget. All my cakes are budget friendly =)

Ginger: Were there any obstacles that you faced when you decided to pursue becoming an entrepreneur? What are these?

Theresa: All businesses have ups and downs, so  just be patient. Don’t be afraid . Learn from mistakes and move forward.

Ginger: What are three traits that you think an entrepreneur should have when starting their own business?

Theresa: A.) Do what you enjoy. B.) Take what you do seriously. C.) Plan everything and manage money wisely.

Ginger: Any unforgettable lesson that you learned as an Entrepreneur?

Theresa: Know your market. Find a particular thing that will make you stand out. Never stop learning.

Ginger: What advice can you give to other Entrepreneurs?

Theresa: Read the recipe from start to finish before you begin baking. Ingredients should always be top-notch.

Ginger: Thank you so much, Miss Theresa! I hope this interview inspires more people to start their own businesses.
