Bon Chon Chicken Greenbelt, Manila

After reading raves about Bon Chon in Ayala Triangle, we have been looking for other branches of this New York Korean food chain in the metropolis. People in Makati will be able to enjoy these double fried chicken in Greenbelt. People in Ortigas though still await the opening of Bon Chon Libis (C5).

Bon Chon offers different kinds of chicken cuts. They have Chicken Wings, Drumsticks, Chicken Combo (combination of Chicken Wings and Drumsticks), and Chicken Chops. Each of these variants can be ordered either “Hot and Spicy” or “Soy Garlic.” Servings for each are either Small (Php 185), Medium (Php 365) or Large (Php 720).

We tried the Chicken Combo Medium and we got a combination of Soy Garlic and Hot and Spicy. Both my husband and I liked the Hot and Spicy variant more. The Soy Garlic was pretty bland. I loved the kick of the Hot and Spicy chicken though. The flavor was so addicting, we soon found ourselves snacking on the bones (and asking for water — boy, was it hot!)

We also recommend that you get the Chicken Wings if you are after the flavor. Most of the flavor is in the skin of the Bon Chon Chicken. If you are trying to watch what you eat though, we recommend the drumstick (since there’s not much skin and oil).

For the vegetarian, do try the Ginger Tofu Salad (Php 125). I loved the strong flavor of the sauce. The sauce was sweet and had a distinctly sesame-y taste.

Bon Chon French Fries

There are also side dishes available. Try the Kimchi Coleslaw (Php 45) or the good old french fries (Php 45). The french fries were thin and crunchy, but nothing really that sets it apart from other french fries.

Overall, it was a satisfying meal. It was weird though that the layout of the place allowed for other people to sit in our table (share a seat, win a friend!). If you’re a stickler for private space, I recommend you go during off hours so that people don’t have to sit so close to each other.

Going back to the food, It would be great for an office get-together or lunch meeting. I see it more as a “pulutan” meal versus being something that is as heavy as a regular pinoy’s rice meal.
