It’s week 12 of my pregnancy. One more week and I’m done with the first trimester. Every day, I feel my belly become bigger and bigger. As early as now, I’m looking at ways to go back to my original weight after I give birth. My sister is into the Cohen’s Diet. I might consider that. Another thing that interests me is belly dancing. I know some of you are also curious to learn and see more of what belly dancing is all about.

Well, on September 22, 2012, the largest annual belly dance event in the Philippines enters its 6th year at the AFP Theater. This event is called BELLYFEST 2012. This event brings together professional bellydancers, belly dance enthusiasts and fans of the middle eastern vibe in one whole day of dance, food, music, shopping and learning. Sounds like FUN, right?

For this Bellyfest 2012, the organizers are bringing in Korea’s 1st place winner of the 2012 World Bellydance Convention and a multi-awarded bellydancer, Ms. Jinhee Kim. Watch her perform her unique brand of belly dance and conduct workshops during the festival. There are a lot of daytime activities for spectators at the Arabian Market. This market features all-day performances by a variety of dancers and musicians, pocket workshops by Ms. Kim and other seasoned experts, henna tattoo artists, merchants selling unique finds, a bellydance photobooth and lots of great food.

The festival culminates in the Grand Evening Show featuring various styles of belly dance such as Cabaret, Egyptian, American Tribal and more modern forms performed by bellydancers from Manila, Bicol, Batangas, Mindoro and Davao. Enjoy performances headlined by Jill Ngo’s Goddesses of Bellydance, percussionists Escape the C and Korea’s Award-winning Jinhee Kim. The evening extravaganza promises to be as colorful as ever as other dance styles such as flamenco, hiphop, jazz and striptease get infused in the program as well.

This is a whole day of sisterhood and the celebration of all things belly dance! Meet new friends, network and immerse yourself in the alluring culture of the Middle East.
