Cafe Mesa Coffee House at Clark Ginger Arboleda February 17, 2011 Beyond Manila, Featured, Food & Dining 1 Comment I’m sure for people who have been to Clark, most of you know of the restaurants near the vicinity of the Stotsenberg Parade Grounds. These restaurants are actually old houses during the time when Clark was still a US military base camp. Well, one of these restaurants is Café Mesa. Cafe Mesa Coffee House Café Mesa is a simple and quaint little restaurant. It has big Acacia trees surrounding it, which gives it the restaurant a rustic ambiance. It can sit around 70 people, when you count the seats inside the restaurant and those little tables and chairs when you dine alfresco. When we tried out the place, the restaurant was obviously full because it was the time of the 16th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. This is the time when the streets and restaurants of Clark are full. We waited for around 10 minutes before we could sit. We were a group of 15 so we got to sit in the enclosed section of the restaurant; that part of the restaurant was reserved for functions and small meetings. We then browsed the menu and ordered. The food choices were all simple dishes — nothing fancy and overwhelming. I ordered the Grilled Chicken with Pesto Sauce (Php 270). Ej ordered the Salisbury Steak (Php 250). Cafe Mesa Soup All the orders came with either a bowl of soup or a platter of fruit. We ordered the bowl of soup. When the soup arrived, it was actually quite tasty. It tasted like miso soup with a few strips of thick noodles. It was just enough to heat your stomach and I delightfully finished the entire bowl. Cafe Mesa Grilled Chicken with Pesto Sauce For my main course, I liked the Grilled Chicken with Pesto Sauce. The chicken was cut into strips, and a thick and creamy white sauce was poured over it. It was a good and simple dish. The order looked ‘enough’ for one person, but was very filling. Cafe Mesa Salisbury Steak Ej ordered the Salisbury Steak. The dish was not as tasty as he expected it to be. He said that something was lacking in the dish. I tasted it and I think what it lacked was a little bit of salt or pepper. Ej called the waiter to give him steak sauce, and after tasting it, he agreed that it lacked a little bit of flavor. The meat should have been a cooked with a little bit of a crisp outer layer and with a little bit more salt. For internet addicts, you will enjoy Cafe Mesa because they offer FREE wireless internet access. It’s a good place to chill and surf! If you want to have a decent and an affordable meal, eat at Café Mesa. In a place like Clark, this is the place for a relaxed and no-frills dining experience.
