We were quite lucky to have attended the 4th Search Engine Marketing Marketing Conference 2010. This was held at the Hotel Intercon, Makati City and we were impressed by the line up of speakers for this year. Our personal favorites were Charlie Ellis, who is an SEO Strategist and an Internet Marketer at Gallant Fish, Jim Boykin, who is and Internet Marketer and the owner of WeBuildPages.com, Aaron Matthew Wall, who is the Founder of SEOBook.com and Todd Malicoat, who is an SEM Consultant and an Internet Marketer of Stundubl.com.

Aside from these 4 speakers, there were also other knowledgeable foreign and local speakers. Here was the line up of speakers:

On day one, the speakers discussed Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tools and practices. The topics focused more on “search”. I enjoyed day one and got a lot of learnings from the speakers. I’m already tinkering with some SEO tools already.

For day two, the main topic was “social” so most of the discussions were on Social Media Networks and Search Engine Marketing (SEM). There were a lot of local speakers, from Melissa Limcaoco, who is the Head of Operations of the New Media Campaign of President Noynoy Aquino and TV Anchor, TJ Manotoc.

What was great is that we had the 4 speakers from day one assess my employer’s site. The speakers who helped us assess our site were Charlie Ellis, Jim Boykin, Aaron Wall and Benj Arriola (SEO Director of Internet Marketing Inc.).

We, of course, hurriedly took notes so that we can apply them. Don’t worry! You will see all these ongoing changes from now ’til next year. What we learned is that companies, like our employer should take the changes in technology very seriously. It is now becoming important to be up to date with the changes happening in the digital world, since the internet is becoming more and more accessible to the consumers/buyers.

What I liked about day two, also, is that we got to have our picture taken with some of the speakers.

And of course, with one of our idol veteran bloggers (sorry, we were so excited that the pic was blurry), Mr. Abe Olandres (Yugatech).

What I learned was that you should always have good content. Even when search engines change algorithms, we will never go wrong with concentrating in making good content. Also, it is very important to study the market and other sites that cater to the same audience. market research is very essential. And lastly, continuous learning is key. Changes in this virtual world happens every minute. We have to read a lot and test these learnings.

We will definitely be attending next year’s event and hopefully, by then, we would have applied most of the learnings from this year’s SEMCON Philippines. More power to IMV Solutions and Fiera De Manila, Inc., Yugatech and SEO Philippines and to the other organizers!
