During weekdays, I’m always on the lookout for new, delicious, and, of course, cheap restaurants where I could have lunch. My search led me (with my team) to a new-ish resto in Megamall named Orchard Road.
As the name implies, they specialize in Singaporean food. Singaporean food is an amalgam of Malay, Chinese, Indonesian, Thai, and Indian food so all our favorites are there – Hainanese Chicken, Tom Yum, Chicken Curry, etc. What I love about the store is that the seats are laid out around the kitchen which is enclosed in glass. It gives off a very nice hawker vibe so it adds to the authenticity of the experience.
I ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice. The chicken was served cold as it should be. It was served with a little saucer of ginger and hoisin sauce and a cup of plain rice. It was pretty good – captured the flavor of the original well. Although I did wish that they gave me a little more hoisin sauce.
Placing an order is an exercise in using the PCOS machine — you get the paper form, shade the circles indicating the order you want, bring it to the cashier, and then you get a number. The servers then bring your order to your table. Service was pretty good with waiters being responsive to requests for water (aside from that, you don’t need any more service, really).
If you’re looking for a new place to try for your office lunch, you can’t go wrong with Orchard Road!

Ate at Orchard Road a few weeks after it opened. We were quite excited to see such a nice big singaporean restaurant. However, the excitement ended when none of the dishes we ordered were good. The quality of the food is worse than an average singaporean food court stall. I won't be going back.
