Valle Verde Summer Football Clinic EJ Arboleda April 8, 2011 Events, Featured 3 Comments I’m so glad that the Philippines has started to pick up on football (or soccer for the americanized out there). Finally, a team sport where real Pinoys have a chance in placing! While the rest of the world was going crazy over football and cheering for their own countries, us Pinoys cheered on NBA teams named for cities most of us have never been to. Finally, here’s a sport where our average height is not a disadvantage (not necessarily) and one where the country can bond as one to cheer. If you are someone like me and you want see your child grow up to be a great football player, I would be looking for summer classes on football – certainly a great alternative to the run-of-the-mill sports programs available. Fortunately, I found one in Valle Verde! And the coach is none other than Coach Bob Salvacion. He’s a former National Team Striker and was named an NCRAA MVP Bob Salvacion (also the former coach of Claret School). This guy breathes football. According to Benjie Anicete, coach of the Rizal Football Association (RIFA) under-11 midgets-C champion Claret School: Luckily, the two coaches Andrew Santiago and Bob Salvacion were fully committed to flag and country. They trained twice a day despite no logistical support from the PFF (Philippine Football Federation). The team was not the best we could assemble since a lot of good players couldn’t go because they had no passports and the PFF didn’t care to facilitate. The PFF didn’t allow a therapist to join the team. So the players’ parents shouldered the cost. The coaches never got allowances despite submitting reports. That was the tournament where our team was quarantined because one player had the H1N1 flu virus. -original article from Quinito Henson’s The Dean’s Corner. Talk about dedication!
