Casa Carmela Kitchen: Piayitos and Chicken Inasal Pate

I’m sure you’ve heard of Piaya’s, which is a great product popularized by the people from Negros. Well, Casa Carmela Kitchen, added a new twist to this flaky pastry, by making a thin and crispy mini Piaya, which is called Piayitos.

I first tried this when my mom, an Ilonggo, had a couple in our house. It looked like potato chips. I saw the tempting pastry and was curious to try it. It was very good! It wasn’t too sweet. It actually tasted like Piaya, but with no flakes falling on your shirt. And it is so addicting! You can have it while watching TV or have it together with your afternoon coffee. This is a unique pastry that you have to try.

This was some time ago. I never thought of looking the label to check from where it was bought until recently when I disocvered another product that I wanted to try.

I ate lunch at my grandmother’s house and afterwhich, I checked her ‘snack’ cart, where she had this amazing stacks of different snacks (ooh, that rhymes!) – crackers, spreads and pate. I saw something interesting. It had Chicken Inasal Pate written on the label.

I was curious to try this unique spread. I love spreads and crackers, but this time I had to pass since I was full from lunch. I jotted down the name of the maker and googled it. I was suprised to see that it was the same maker as the Piayitos that I liked. I wanted to share this post though so that the rest of you may try the Chicken Inasal Pate.

Casa Carmela Kitchen makes other products. I miss Dulce Gatas ( a childhood snack!) and I’d love for my husband to try it. They have other interesting products that I would soon like to try. The owner is a Negrense named Millie Locsin Kilayko. They had bagged the two top awards for Food Product Innovation in the annual Bulawan Awards of the Association of Negros Producers.
