Regina Spektor What We Saw From The Cheap Seats Album Review http://manilareviews.com/2012/07/regina-spektor-cheap-seats-album-review.html http://manilareviews.com/2012/07/regina-spektor-cheap-seats-album-review.html#respond Wed, 25 Jul 2012 22:00:39 +0000 http://manilareviews.com/?p=11087 Regina Spektor is an Russian-American alternative singer-songwriter and pianist. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centered in New York City’s (NY) East Village. She makes quirky, highly eclectic, but always personal music. Anti-folk is a music genre that takes the earnestness of politically charged 1960s folk music and subverts it. How is this 32 year old artist influenced by this type of music? It is because, in NY, Spektor studied classic piano with Sonia Vargas, a professor at the Manhattan School of Music, until she was 17. And the rest is history.

Rumer: The Boys Don’t Cry Album Review http://manilareviews.com/2012/07/rumer-boys-dont-cry-album-review.html http://manilareviews.com/2012/07/rumer-boys-dont-cry-album-review.html#comments Sun, 22 Jul 2012 22:00:18 +0000 http://manilareviews.com/?p=11073 Sara Joyce, better known by her stage name, Rumer, recently launched her second album entitled Boys Don’t Cry last May 28, 2012. The album has 12 tracks originally sang by men during the early 70s. What I love about this album is that Rumer was able to deliver the song as if she owns it. Her own version makes the songs unique. You wouldn’t have guessed that these songs were originally sung by men. This album really brings out the artistic talent of Rumer.

Corrine May’s Crooked Lines: A Mother’s Love thru God http://manilareviews.com/2012/07/corrine-mays-crooked-lines-mothers-love-god.html http://manilareviews.com/2012/07/corrine-mays-crooked-lines-mothers-love-god.html#respond Mon, 09 Jul 2012 22:00:35 +0000 http://manilareviews.com/?p=10766 Corrine May, being a devout Catholic, made music, which is inspired by her relationship with God, and this song proves it. Listen to her angelic voice in times of worship and at the same time hear her sing for her daughter with a mother’s love.

Linkin Park’s Living Things Album http://manilareviews.com/2012/06/linkin-parks-living.html http://manilareviews.com/2012/06/linkin-parks-living.html#respond Thu, 28 Jun 2012 22:00:05 +0000 http://manilareviews.com/?p=10747 The wait is finally over for Linkin Park’s latest album “Living Things,” for it is almost two years since they launched their last studio recording (A Thousand Suns). They say, for a band to come up with a next album, is close to impossible because they can no longer compose better music, but Linkin Park proved this wrong. Their creative juices are still over-flowing even if it was years ago when they formed their group. Sixteen years is more than enough for them to mature and evolve to perfection. We see their continuous progression from their debut album, Hybrid Theory, which was the national anthem of the 20th century.

The Bloomfields New Album http://manilareviews.com/2010/10/bloomfields-album.html http://manilareviews.com/2010/10/bloomfields-album.html#comments Tue, 26 Oct 2010 09:13:09 +0000 http://manilareviews.com/?p=3828 I have always admired artists, probably because they have a way of expressing thoughts and feelings through the form of art that they create. Writers write interesting stories and novels, poets write poems, painters create paintings and The Bloomfields sing songs that get people to dance and sing with them. The Bloomfields were know to sing cover songs, and these songs were songs that everyone can relate to, like these pieces for example.
